As a result, the couple have revealed their home decor to the world via video calls. Like any sushi bar worth its toro, Flo is relatively minimalist by design — except when the plates come out. Traditionalists approve of the gorgeous sashimi and nigiri platters with things like glistening saba, perfect halibut, and hamachi. Things get a bit more wild with creative appetizers and rolls, including cured salmon tostadas with jalapeño jam. The all-in omakase is one for the books, especially when paired with some of the select sake on offer.

Inspired by 1970s Japanese city pop, Harry's House is a synth-pop, new wave, pop rock and pop-funk album. One organizer complained that the White House Correspondents' Association - which represents the hundreds of journalists who cover the president - largely has been silent since the first weeks of the war about the killings of Palestinian journalists. In May, Jay-Z and Beyoncé dropped $200 million on a compound eight miles up the coast, setting the all-time price record in the state of California. The Los Angeles Rams have the 19th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. If they hold onto the pick it will be the first time the franchise has made a first round selection since they took Jared Goff No. 1 in 2016. It will also be the first time that the team has picked in the first round since Sean McVay became head coach in 2017 so you can understand why the team is kind of excited.

Fall’s in full swing, but it looks like there’s a new reason to head out to the beach. Harry’s Fine Foods — the chill bistro that has been slinging comfort food in Capitol Hill since 2016 — opened its West Seattle spinoff Harry’s Beach House today on Alki Avenue. The menu brings over some fan favorites from the original spot (including its popular Harry’s burger), with some rotating seasonal offerings using locally sourced ingredients. Brunch dishes include poached eggs on roasted delicata squash, borscht, and cornmeal pancakes, while dinner features lamb riblettes and Salish black cod with smoked sunchokes and huckleberry jus.

During a video call for the Invictus Games Foundation, Prince Harry sat in front of a white cabinet, and paint swatches were visible on the wall behind him. Since opening its doors in the fall of 2019, Harry’s Beach House has become a staple for excellent food, delicious libations and even better company. It is great for groups who want to enjoy a family-style meal at the communal dining table, which seats 12 and is in the center of all the action. Or cozy up by the fireplace while making some new friends and soaking in the views from the main dining room or from the patio that is open year-round (and dog-friendly, too). Beach-chic may not be a vibe that Seattle generally excels at, but this Alki Beach haunt knocks it out of the park with water views and zero kitsch. Cocktails are mandatory, especially inspired concoctions like a purple-hued gin and tonic made with butterfly pea flower. Favorites from sibling Harry’s Fine Foods make an appearance here, but roast chicken with schmaltzy croutons, fried oysters, and Dungeness crab dip all taste better by the water. Check out Harry’s boozy weekend brunch serving up mimosas, cocktails and breakfast favorites like biscuits and gravy along with a local favorite–apple cider doughnut holes. There are some great menu selections available for lunch, like the beet salad tossed with whipped goat cheese, persimmon, pistachio, chicories and sherry-shallot vinaigrette. And don’t forget a side of Harry’s fries, made with fresh potatoes, pecorino, fried sage, rosemary and 601 sauce.

More than two dozen journalists in Gaza wrote a letter last week calling on their colleagues in Washington to boycott the dinner altogether. The night's remarks also were expected to cast a spotlight on the many journalists detained and otherwise persecuted around the globe for doing their jobs, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been imprisoned in Russia since March 2023. Kelly O'Donnell, president of the correspondents' association, opened the event by reminding the audience of the important work that journalists do but noting that the dinner is happening at "a complex moment for our nation," and in a decisive election year. Chants accused U.S. journalists of undercovering the war and misrepresenting it. "Western media we see you, and all the horrors that you hide," crowds chanted at one point.

Accidentally came here during happy hour, the food and prices were amazing. Harry's Beach House is a great restaurant if you're spending time in West Seattle, and the coastal kind of menu is pretty customizable to any type of mood. Maybe you got up early and roll through just in time for a pile of french toast. Maybe you're in head-to-toe Ivy Park after an afternoon workout and feel like knocking back oysters on the half shell with some champagne. Or you might be yearning for a fish and chips or burger and fries moment. You can do all of that at Harry's, complete with an Alki-side location that's perfect if the weather is on your side.

For Christmas 2020, Meghan and Harry released a unique portrait taken with their son, Prince Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The trio were captured in front of a sweet playhouse, which was surrounded by a luscious green garden. During a joint video call in which the couple spoke with activist and Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, three bird nest prints were visible behind the couple's couch. During a solo appearance on America's Got Talent, Meghan gave fans a glimpse at a perfectly decorated room in the house. Behind the couch, fans spotted a Diptyque candle, a bouquet of hydrangeas, and a stack of coffee-table books.

The couple's new neighbours in the upmarket Montecito district just outside the city, about 150km from Los Angeles, include Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen DeGeneres and Ariana Grande. Harry's House has garnered many awards and nominations, including Album of the Year at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Numerous critics and publications listed Harry's House in their year-end ranking of the best albums of 2022, often inside the top-ten. The “Wave House” — one of the most iconic homes on the California coast — just hit the market for $49.5 million. It’s the first time the architectural gem has surfaced for sale in 36 years.

The interview was originally rumored to have been filmed at Harry and Meghan’s Montecito house, but Oprah confidante and “CBS This Morning” host Gayle King told reporters the interview was shot at “a friend’s house,” according to the Daily Mail. Their new life is anchored in their 18,000-square-foot modern house in Montecito, California, which the pair purchased for $14.65 million this summer.

Biden's motorcade Saturday took an alternate route from the White House to the Washington Hilton than in previous years, largely avoiding the crowds of demonstrators. Seattle is known for its excellent seafood, and Chef John from Harry’s Beach House is no stranger to creating new specialties with locally caught ingredients. If you have asked anyone who’s visited this incredible restaurant, you’ll be convinced into ordering the Dungeness crab and scallop cakes. Bursting with flavor, this dish is an outstanding combination of two popular seafood favorites, mixed together with saffron aioli, frisee and watermelon radish. According to a preliminary investigation released Friday by the Committee to Protect Journalists, nearly 100 journalists have been killed covering the war in Gaza. Israel has defended its actions, saying it has been targeting militants. Assuming the Rams don't trade out of the first round, they will be picking on the first day of the draft for the first time since 2016 when Jared Goff was the No. 1 overall pick.

Whatever floats your boat, find it in this month’s New on Resy selections. Jumping over to the main section of the menu, the roast chicken is a Harry’s staple, available in half or whole orders and served with smashed potatoes, gribenes, schmaltzy croutons and a trio of tasty sauces. The dish is cooked to perfection and complemented well by a side of the grilled broccolini and an order of the grilled sourdough with butter and local honey. Finish off the evening with a hazelnut “afauxgato,” served frozen combining vodka, Frangelico, cold brew and coconut cream.

Reports surfaced this morning that the interview was filmed at King’s house, but the New York Post was not able to confirm these reports. Footage of Archie playing on the shore was shown as part of the CBS special.

Harry and Markle had previously been staying in “Madea” character actor Tyler Perry’s Los Angeles mansion before moving about an hour and a half away to Santa Barbara, California. Their estate’s proximity to Markle’s mom was ideal during a time when Markle was struggling with her mental health. The mansion is gorgeous, but viewers were most interested in the family’s chicken coop, which has a sign that reads, “Archie’s Chick Inn. Established 2021.” Harry can be seen feeding their chickens, which were rescued from a factory farm, in a recorded clip played during the interview. During a video chat with the charity Smart Works, Meghan showed another area of her Montecito home.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z just set the all-time price record in California, paying $200 million for a striking concrete compound overlooking the ocean in Malibu. Real estate records show the home has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms across 6,208 square feet. The home is a Modernist masterpiece, a reflection of the seaside setting that surrounds it. Drawing inspiration from natural forms, it boasts eccentric archways, rounded decks and walls of glass overlooking the ocean. Inside, a sunken conversation pit is anchored by a floor-to-ceiling fireplace under whitewashed beams. Before you get judgy and start thinking that this is just some soulless corporate promotion, you know that the decor is more than just Rams chic.

In a veritable sea of solid dining options, this Portland-based sushi chain’s U Village location stands out not only for its signature rolls and ultra-fresh nigiri, but also for its sustainable seafood sourcing. Though it’s hard to bypass the fish, the wagyu beef burger is a sleeper hit, and not just among the raw-fish averse. On warm evenings, there’s nothing better than a happy hour and comfort food on Oddfellows’ “secret” back patio. When the weather dips, pretend you’re sweating on the streets of Bangkok with Bai Tong’s spicy som tum and wok-licked pad see-ew. Or simply set up camp at Harry’s Beach House for grilled halibut sandwiches and Negroni spritzes on the water.

Soon after moving into their new home, Meghan and Harry gave a small glimpse inside the property, which revealed some beautiful windows and well-placed foliage. In August 2020, a source told Us Weekly that, while they could've asked Prince Charles for financial help, Meghan and Harry decided to purchase their new home independently. Per Us Weekly's source, "Harry could’ve asked [Prince] Charles to contribute toward the cost of the house, but he chose not to ... Getting his dad financially involved would result in the royals having control over him. It would mean going backwards." The menu at this Beacon Hill destination showcases Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors built with the best Pacific Northwest ingredients. Think bright, herby dips for dragging house-made pita through, and proteins and veggies roasted and charred after a trip through the centerpiece wood-fired oven.

How Much Does It Cost To Paint a House? House Exterior Paint

cost to paint a house exterior

For House Beautiful’s fifth Whole Home, the exterior was painted using Mole's Breath and Purbeck Stone by Farrow & Ball. Natural stone and architectural windows by Pella complete the Atlanta home’s fresh feel. From traditional to modern, these exterior paint color schemes will instantly boost your home's curb appeal. The number of storeys can also impact the price, not just because more paint may be needed to cover the exterior, but extra scaffolding could be required for tall homes too. To get a good idea of costs, you then need to measure the exterior of your home. Many brands have online paint calculators to let you know how much product will be required and they mostly work in square metres.

You can estimate your exterior house painting costs using our paint estimate calculator. You’ll find out how much paint and trim you need for your exterior paint job. It will also estimate the cost of painting the exterior of a house by a professional painting company.

Download the Thumbtack app today and contact nearby painting professionals for free cost estimates. Painting the inside or outside of your home can be a big endeavor, whether you DIY or not. Talk with house painters near you to get a clearer idea of what you can achieve with your budget. For smaller paint jobs, such as touch-ups or painting a single interior wall, DIY may be more suitable. A poor paint job could result in you wanting to hire a pro anyway.

Cost to paint the siding

Have your contractor write out exactly what will be included in the prep work and what they will charge per hour if they need to do more work. The cost to paint a 1500 sq ft house exterior typically ranges between $3,000 and $6,000, excluding additional materials or labor. Project cost factors such as the job’s complexity, poor exterior paint condition, type of paint, and region can affect the final price.

DIY painting vs. hiring a professional

Allow your home to harmonize with the greenery that surrounds it by creating a jade and olive color scheme, as HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier did for this Laurel, Mississippi, home. The siding is painted in Rookwood Jade and the porch flooring is in Renwick Olive, both by Sherwin-Williams, to reflect the natural landscape. On average, you can expect to cover around 5sqm (two coats) per litre of masonry paint. Of course, carrying out the work yourself will cut labour costs, but will require a lot of time and effort in exchange.

Paint and Primer Type, Quality, and Finish

Trim, shutters, gutters, doors, and porches are some of the additional features that will need to be accounted for in the budget. Homeowners will want to plan to spend $2 per linear foot on trim painting, around $500 for gutters, $300 for each door, and $1,200 for the porch. Painting the exterior of a house does not require a permit, but a permit may be necessary if siding replacement is needed.

Consider the Skill level You’ll Need

Depending on the size and height of your home, you may also need a ladder, work platform or even a paint sprayer. If you don’t have these things, be sure to factor in the cost of renting or buying them. Schedule painting in advance to avoid rush charges or missing out on an appointment. This is especially important during busy seasons, such as the spring.

When you’re painting your house’s exterior, the choice of exterior paint brands can make a big difference in how much you end up paying in the long run. While premium brands are more expensive initially, they often provide superior quality, durability and color retention. Therefore, investing in these brands can lead to a longer-lasting finish that requires less maintenance over time. The cost to paint fiber cement siding is between $1.20 and $3.20 per square foot.

We aim to have data on all US zip codes, so homeowners from all over the country can lookup accurate and up to date pricing information. If your budget is tight, here are a few tips to help you trim the cost of a professional project. As a homeowner, it’s essential to know you are paying for these costs and who — you or the contractor — is responsible for any legal obligations. For multi-story homes, rental fees for extensive scaffolding or a mechanical lift are extra. From preparation to clean-up, it takes 3-5 days to complete a project, depending on the complexity.

Speak to the painting company or contractor to plan the best way to tackle these additional painting projects at the same time to renew the appearance of the entire home exterior. The cost to paint a house exterior can also vary depending on the type of siding. Common options include wood, vinyl, brick, metal, stucco, and concrete.

Extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night can also cause drying issues. Ask for itemized bids so you can tell if lower offers include fewer services, and request contracts that protect you from cost overruns. Select pigments also require more effort to disperse in a batch of paint when mixed. Fresh stucco has a waiting period of up to two months before it can be painted. Contractors use a special moisture meter to tell if it’s cured enough for paint to stick. Hardened stucco takes just a quick power wash to clean, and it dries quickly.

cost to paint a house exterior

Many siding manufacturers claim that their products will never need to be painted. However, siding can fade over time, and lighter colors can even begin to yellow or stain due to the elements. You may also choose to change the color of your home down the line, leading you to paint the siding.

Homes in areas that experience harsh winters or high humidity will need paint that can withstand the elements. While the national average cost to paint a house is $3,087, prices can also depend on the region of the country where the home is located due to labor prices and cost of living. For example, in the Southwest it costs an average of $2,400 to paint a 1,500-square-foot house.

The majority of the cost to paint a house exterior comes from labor. Most professionals will charge between $25 and $100 per hour to paint a house, and that price is usually folded into the quote. An experienced house painting contractor will know how long it will take to complete the project and how many painters to use to get the job done right.

Exterior commercial painting often requires additional equipment and special scaffolding, depending on the building size and number of stories. Painting a stucco house costs $1.00 to $5.50 per square foot or $1,700 to $9,400 on average. The rougher the stucco texture, the more surface area and paint required. Some professionals use paint sprayers to cover a lot of surface area at once. Not only does spraying have a lower per-hour cost of $30 to $50, but it also takes less time to complete.

The labor costs may be more expensive because of the extended time needed to do the job right. Weather and climate impact the type of paint needed, and it also determines how often a house will need to be painted. If the home is located in a hot and sunny climate, direct sunlight may cause the exterior paint to fade.

2023 Cost to Paint a House Exterior & Interior Painting

cost to paint a house exterior

However, some brands do tend to be cheaper than others if you’re looking to cut costs. Oil-based paints are less common because they have a strong odor and release hazardous compounds when wet. They’re safer to use outside than inside, and many homeowners find that they dry harder than water-based paints. Unfortunately, this also means they’re more prone to cracking and fading and more difficult to clean.

Interior house painting cost:

When budgeting for the cost to paint a house, there are additional price factors and considerations for homeowners to take into account. Some additional costs are paint stripping, equipment and travel fees, and landscaping. The cost of painting trim is charged by the linear foot, and it usually runs between $1 and $6 per linear foot. If the trim is painted at the same time as the rest of the house, it’s usually calculated with the overall cost of the quote and would not appear as a separate charge. Mold and mildew can grow on almost any type of surface, not just wood, and can get under the siding. It's easier for the mold to work its way into your house through cracks in the exterior paint or gaps where the flashing isn't properly installed.

Schedule painting during a cheaper season.

On the other hand, multi-story homes typically require specialized equipment and techniques to reach higher areas. For instance, ladders or boom lifts might be necessary to ensure that all surfaces are properly painted. These additional requirements can lead to increased labor and equipment costs. Resurfacing concrete costs $3,000 to $5,000 per 1,000 square feet. Prepping a house costs anywhere from $0.50 to $2.50 per square foot; the total price almost always includes prep work. However, the DIYer might negotiate some discounts for completing this work on their own.

Repairs or Upgrades

The paint you need depends on your house’s size and the coverage you want. Make sure to research and buy the right paint finish for your project. Additionally, include painting the exterior doors in your improvement project. Many homes built before 1978 contain some kind of lead-based paint.

Unexpected Exterior Painting Costs

Due to its low maintenance, vinyl siding is prevalent in many places. Not many people paint vinyl siding, but it can be worth it if the color fades and the siding is in good condition. It costs about $0.55 to $2.60 to paint vinyl, and you need to be sure the painter uses paint that bonds with the vinyl siding well. Poured concrete or concrete block isn’t as popular because of its high cost.

If sanding or scraping old paint is involved, your costs will go up. You may be able to save on labor costs by painting your house yourself. However, if you’re not an experienced painter, your learning curve will be steeper. Making an error will add more time and required resources to the project. Without accurate estimation, you may overspend on your house exterior painting project. Here are a few ways to estimate your home’s size without a measuring tape.

cost to paint a house exterior

Paint quality and type

When extra floors need to be taken into account, special safety methods may be required, such as ladders or scaffolding. Higher-quality paint can often withstand environmental factors like condensation and UV rays than lower-quality, cheaper paint. However, it can save you money in the long run if the paint is more durable. Calculating the cost on your own will give you an approximate budget.

Find the Best Painters in Your City

More time is needed to complete the job for a home with multiple stories. In addition to covering more surface, painting a multi-story home requires additional equipment. Scaffolds, for example, take longer to erect, move and disassemble, and climbing up and down ladders takes time. Minor repairs are more complicated — tasks that may take only one painter at ground level require two for safety at higher elevations. In general, expect a 20–60% premium for each level your home has in addition to the additional square footage. It takes about 8 gallons per coat to cover a 2500 square-foot house with wood or metal siding.

Light Gray, Plum, and White

cost to paint a house exterior

Doors, fascia, gutters and shutters can be included in an estimate or charged separately. The average cost to paint an exterior door is $70 to $300; fascia $1 to $3 per linear foot; gutters $1 to $4 per linear foot; shutters $60 to $80 each. The table below shows the average cost per foot to paint a home based on the type of siding it has. Save big on labor costs by doing some of the surface preparation such as scraping and sanding. Score additional discounts by arranging for permits yourself or agreeing to take care of the post-project cleanup.

Usually, it’s a good idea to opt for the highest quality your budget will allow. Better paint will stay visually appealing for longer, increasing the amount of time between paint jobs. The exterior material type is a significant factor in calculating the cost to paint a house. Wood and vinyl siding can cost around $2 per square foot to paint. This is less than most other materials because it is much less porous.

However, even very small amounts of lead dust can poison your child or unborn child. If you would like an accurate quote to have your home painted, contact us to set up a free estimate appointment. An estimator will learn about your project and consider all of the factors outlined above to give you an accurate quote for how much it will cost to paint your homes exterior. If your home was built prior to 1978, it may contain lead-based paint. If so, you should only use EPA or state approved Lead-Safe certified renovation firms. If you live in an older home, certain protections may need to be put in place while you're prepping and painting its exterior.

The EPA also provides resources to contact your state's Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention (CLPP) program for more information. Our current home has wooden shake siding and I will never do it again. 🙂 I’ll hire a painting contractor every time due to the speed they get it done, the advice on colors and durability, as well as the quality of the finished product. The short answer is yes, painting your home's exterior does increase its value.

The True Story Behind Netflix's Bridgerton 'Queen Charlotte'

in queen charlotte what is wrong with george

Academic studies state that the monarch suffered from convulsions, frothing at the mouth, incoherent rambling, and would eventually go on to lose his hearing, vision, memory and ability to walk. Studies also state that the King was treated with horrific methods to "cure" his "madness" such as solitary confinement and arsenic powder as a skin treatment. Queen Charlotte on Netflix is arguably the most talked-about show right now and for good reason! The incredible cast and the brilliantly moving and heartwarming storyline has led fans to waste no time bingeing all eight episodes.

What is wrong with King George in Queen Charlotte?

It is well assured that King George did have a mental illness but the classification of what it exactly was has been debated by historians for centuries. Some believe he was bipolar, while others claimed he had the genetic metabolic disorder known as porphyria. George suffered several bouts of severe mental illness during his reign. On one occasion in 1778, he was restrained with a straitjacket after becoming aggressive. On another occasion, he began foaming at the mouth and speaking incoherently for hours on end.

Kate Forbes pulls out of SNP leadership race

In September 2022, George honored his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth at her state funeral. The prince joined his parents and sister Charlotte in the royal family procession, walking behind the Queen's coffin down the aisle of Westminster Abbey. George wore a navy suit and black tie with his blond hair neatly combed. The following spring, Kate echoed a similar sentiment when she announced that she is undergoing treatment for cancer.

William also said Charlotte and George were giving them a run for their money, sharing that the duo was always "running around, pushing things, jumping." As he got older, William and Kate searched for the perfect early education school for George, eventually landing on Thomas's Battersea School in London. In a statement, the palace said the couple was "confident" in the school's ability to give George a "happy and successful start to his education." As a toddler, William and Kate expressed that they wanted to give George as normal of a childhood as possible, stressing the importance of spending time outdoors and understanding nature.

According to Martin, samples of George III's hair provided to him by the Natural History Museum in London confirm the royal received treatments for severe ailments. As Queen Charlotte depicts, the treatments George was put through were painful and inhumane—and included wearing a straitjacket, bloodletting, blistering, and more. In the last decade of his life, in addition to the acute mania and blindness from bilateral cataracts, George also possibly suffered from dementia. An exact diagnosis of George III has never been determined, although there has been plenty of speculation over the years as to the cause of his erratic behavior, which was characterized by episodes of agitation, rambling, and hypersexuality.

Queen Charlotte's King George III has mystified historians for centuries—and now, he's mystifying Netflix viewers, too. We're separating fact from fiction when it comes to the king's "madness." In 1751, the former suffered a fatal lung injury, leaving George next in line to the throne. He was crowned the Prince of Wales soon after and aged 18 was offered his own palace, turning it down to stay at home with his strict mother. George ascended to the throne four years later when his namesake grandfather George II passed away.

In the final scene of the series, present-day Queen Charlotte visits King George with the news that their son, Edward, has married and is expecting a baby aka an heir to the throne. Sam is an assistant news editor at Cosmo, covering all things pop culture, entertainment, and celebrity news. She previously covered those same topics along with health, lifestyle, and beauty at Seventeen. When she isn't draping her cheeks in blush, you can probably find her live-tweeting awards shows or making SwiftToks. However, other historians are doubtful that this proves that Charlotte was Black or of mixed-race descent. In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, academic Ania Loomba said that the assumption that Charlotte was Black because her ancestry included descriptions of “moors” relies on an inaccurate understanding of history.

Present-day historians think it’s likely that King George suffered from bipolar disorder, which can cause unusual changes in behavior, mood, and activity. The modern definition seems to align with King George's reported symptoms. Despite the king's clear need for assistance, the characters around him are ill-equipped to help—although to be fair, the series is set in the 1700s, long before mental health professionals were established. As such, George never receives a formal diagnosis; instead, he’s simply referred to as “mad,” and is subjected to inhumane remedies. Though many people in his orbit are concerned for his well-being, George’s mother, Dowager Princess Augusta, dismisses their fears to keep her son in power. The king is merely exhausted from holding the greatest nation in the world on his shoulders.” As the series unfolds, George and Charlotte depend on one another to navigate his mental health episodes.

She is responsible, however unintentionally, for the damage inflicted on her son by the doctor she enlisted (Guy Henry). This Doctor Monro’s violent techniques included—among other creative tortures—dunking George’s head repeatedly into ice-cold water, slapping him, starving him of nutrients, and leeching him. As the audience, we watch enough of these moments that they only narrowly avoid the territory of trauma porn, which would imply such actions were grotesque but necessary for George to become worthy of his new bride. A precise diagnosis is not explored in Queen Charlotte, nor does it particularly matter in the context of the story. What matters was (and is) the perception of George as “mad,” and what was to be done about it. “It looked as though he was suffering from some kind of abdominal pain,” Warren shares, noting that people with acute porphyritic attacks can experience symptoms related to the autonomic nervous system.

While history may remember George III as the mad king who lost the American colonies, Queen Charlotte depicts him as a complex yet loving man with a deep interest in science and astrology, whose very real struggles with mental health change the scope of his life. He was a devoted and loving husband and a ruler known for his interest in and support for culture, science, astronomy, and agriculture. He was responsible for buying what is now known as Buckingham Palace and opened up a library that was free for scholars to use, but his legacy as a king has largely been defined by his mental health struggles. Today, there is no definitive diagnosis for George’s condition, but historians and medical professionals have suggested several possibilities, including bipolar disorder, porphyria, or a rare genetic disorder called acute intermittent porphyria.

The story is loosely based on fact (which you can read more about in our explainer), and the real King George III did suffer from a mental illness. While George had always previously managed to recover from these spells, his final mental health episode, said to be brought on by the passing of his favourite daughter Princess Amelia, lasted a full decade until his death. The royal also suffered from rheumatism and lost his sight and hearing during his final years, which were spent in seclusion at Windsor Castle. He eventually died at the age of 81 in 1820 from pneumonia and was succeeded by sons George IV and William IV. In addition, "Queen Charlotte" — which takes place between two timelines, one in 1761, and the other in 1817 — follows history by portraying the king's deterioration in later life and introduces Charlotte and George's son as the prince regent in the scenes set in 1817. “Madness” matters more than anyone living with a mental illness cares for it to.

Previous academic texts have suggested the monarch suffered from porphyria, a theory that held weight for several decades. However, more recent studies, including one from St. George's, University of London claimed that porphyria theory was "dead in the water", and instead insisted George had suffered from a psychiatric illness. The show—which premiered on May 4th—is helmed by Shonda Rhimes, who also created the original Bridgerton series. This spinoff stars India Ria Amarteifio as Queen Charlotte and Corey Mylchreest as King George. Since its premiere, fans have devoured the series, but its shocking twist has left many wondering if the story is based on real-life history.

When marking this big milestone, the King appeared to pay a subtle nod to his grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis by wearing his favourite pink silk tie. King Charles delighted royal watchers when he resumed public-facing duties alongside his wife Queen Camilla on Tuesday. “As part of the Fierce Queens event that the tour is based on, we had a black performer playing Queen Charlotte, which is why this segment was included in the tour. Royal Museums Greenwich has made efforts to reach a broader and more diverse audience in recent years, and new displays at its largest site, the Nation Maritime Museum, have reflected this strategy. While Queen Charlotte was depicted as mixed-race in the Netflix series Bridgerton, there is consensus among historians that she was white. Royal pundits had been divided about whether or not the Prince and Princess, aged nine and seven respectively, would be present at the funeral given their young age.

I probably could have gotten out of there for closer to $10 and not gone hungry. There was seating for four inside, just next to the sliding door, along with a table and chairs and a comfy lounge chair of sorts on the balcony. There was a double closet between the bedroom and bathroom, along with a couple of branded robes. The 10x miles with Hotels.com offer ends Jan. 31, 2020. Thompson Beach House is placed right on the beach in Playa del Carmen, a 45 minute drive from Cancun International Airport. A service charge of 10.00% is not included and must be paid at check in.

Wi-Fi is included in the mandatory Lifestyle Fee that’s added to all room rates. Bathrooms are large and sleek, with glass walk-in rainfall showers, ample sink areas, and cotton robes.

Hairdryers and a small selection of toiletries are provided, including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and body moisturizer. All but entry-level King or Two Queens Rooms have separate soaking tubs, and top-tier Panoramic Balcony Suites have plunge pools on the balcony. Both properties are very much right in the action, though, so you could easily walk to restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. Housed in an angular sand-colored building with stone and wood accents and a simple glass entrance, Thompson Beach House looks modern and sleek already from the outside. The property is compact but appealing and inviting, with just about the right amount of designer touches to feel upscale yet laid-back. Although there’s a couch and a table with a couple of chairs, the lobby is the place where guests wait to be checked in rather than hang out with a drink.

With just three floors and 27 rooms, you can avoid the tourist crunch and overbearing salespeople that are all too common at large resorts. Great location, food breakfast excellent best in playa. Cancellation and prepayment policies vary according to accommodations type. Please enter the dates of your stay and check what conditions apply to your preferred room. Wi-Fi was available free of charge — well, as part of the $35 fee — but I found it to be especially sluggish, making it hard to get much work done.

Please inform Thompson Playa Del Carmen Beach House, by Hyatt of your expected arrival time in advance. Very modern, clean, peaceful, in front of the beach, in downtown near everything. We loved the spacious room, terrace, and calm of the space. It is far enough away from the very clubby section a few blocks away, and insulated from that noise.

There are several loungers around it as well as a few cabanas with ceiling fans, sofas, and food and drink service. There is some music during the day but it’s generally not too loud. With only 27 guestrooms and suites, Thompson Beach House offers highly personalized, intuitive service and private check-in. For my entree, I was eyeing the whole catch of the day, which was described as "golden fish" with a pastor marinade. At $50, that was out of my solo-diner budget, though, so the waiter offered to do a filet prepared in the same style, instead. At $17, it wasn't cheap, considering the prices at local restaurants, but, boy, was it delicious.

Hyatt wasn't able to shed much light on the situation, only confirming that the Thompson Beach House and its sister Main House would not be participating in World of Hyatt. You're not entirely out of luck, though — there's a phenomenal Grand Hyatt just up the road, which I actually preferred to Thompson's pricey beach pad (stay tuned for that review!). With Thompson joining the Hyatt family following the acquisition of Two Roads Hospitality, we set out to review some of the top properties that we expected to soon be bookable with Hyatt points. One notable Thompson hotel didn't make it on Hyatt's list — the property I chose to review in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We rate all our hotels, resorts, and lodges using our own bespoke grading system. We'll only invite a property into our collection once it's been assessed by one of our specialists.

Beautiful room and lots of day beds, was always able to find a place to lounge. A relaxed, bohemian atmosphere at a small hotel in Playa del Carmen. This lovely beach getaway provides everything you need for an unforgettable vacation. Breakfast was pricey by local standards, but it quickly became clear that I had ordered a lot of food.

I pulled up the Hotels.com booking on my phone, but the clerk wasn't impressed. If you're planning to swim, note that there was a ton of seaweed in this area of the beach when I went. It didn't seem to be an issue for hotels a bit farther north, though, on the other side of the ferry pier. At $307 for a base room, the Thompson Beach House is one of the priciest hotels in Riviera Maya — at least among those who don't fall under the all-inclusive category, with bundled food, drinks and activities.

So I emailed instead, but when I didn't receive a response within 24 hours, I called the reservations line and had the agent cancel my stay entirely. Clearly, giving the hotel a bigger cut of the rate was more hassle than it was worth. Stunning spacious modern rooms, roof deck pools and restaurants.
