The other two ships, the Disney Wonder and the Disney Magic have typically traveled around a bit more. Disney Magic, DCL’s inaugural ship, debuted in 1998, while Disney Wonder debuted a year later, in 1999. Additionally, a sixth ship, Disney Treasure, has been announced and is expected to be seaworthy some time in 2024.

Disney Cruise Ships: Smallest to Largest (
The two other Wish-class ships that are due to launch for the fleet in the next couple of years will be a similar size to the Disney Wish, and are expected to have a similar guest capacity too. In addition to the vessel mentioned above, Disney Cruise Line also has two sister ships to Disney Wish on order. Another vessel in the same series, known as the Triton class of ships, is on order for delivery in 2025. If you're in the "bigger is better" camp when it comes to a resort experience, these are the Disney ships for you. Each ship offers a pool deck with splash areas and the Funnel Vision signature television screen showing Disney movies throughout the day.

The ships' insides are loaded with huge children's play areas, family entertainment and even adults-only venues. As of 2023, Disney Cruise Line has five ships in its fleet, each with its own personality and charm. It is also the biggest and most impressive ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It is a 144,000 gross tonnage vessel with a length of 1,119 feet and can accommodate up to 4,000 passengers. At only 85,000 gross registered tons, Disney Wonder is on the smaller side of cruise ships. Because of that, it can feel more intimate than today's mega-ships, especially since her passenger capacity is just a little over 2,700 guests.

The idea is that, while the ships can be slightly bigger, the Disney Wish capacity of 4,000 guests is the right level for now in order to provide Disney’s signature guest experiences. The older Disney ships are refurbished regularly and still offer a fantastic cruise. I cruised on Disney Magic, the oldest Disney cruise ship, and had a fantastic time, as I did when I cruised on the newest Disney ship, the Disney Wish. Each of the ships offers lots of activities, including first-run Disney movies in the movie theater (the Wish has two theaters) and Broadway-style stage live shows in the Walt Disney Theater. The shows do vary by ship, but I’ve seen all of them and everyone is fantastic. All of the ships offer a number of amenities that families will love.
Biggest Disney Cruise Ship -Disney Wish Cruise
This is the first Disney ship powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas), a much cleaner burning fuel. The third ship of the Disney fleet, the Disney Dream, first set out from Port Canaveral on January 26, 2011, to the Bahamas. Disney Dream is tied with the Fantasy for the 2nd largest ship in the Disney fleet. Disney Magic is also the only Disney cruise with itineraries visiting Europe, with transatlantic voyages heading to Greece, Spain, the British Isles, and Norway. The Disney Magic is also the only ship that includes the Avengers Academy, allowing fans to fly with the one and only Iron Man. Although all Disney ships are great options, some exclusive features on Disney Magic make it stand out.

Which Disney Ship is the Newest?
Disney Dream and Fantasy both feature Remy, an adults-only restaurant, a Skyline bar and the "Cars"-themed Flo's Cafe. Goofy's Galley outdoor restaurant and Pluto's Dog House snack bar are both unique to Disney Wonder. As someone who sometimes cruises without my kids, I appreciate the adult-only sections. My favorite adult-only area is Satellite Falls, an outdoor sun deck area that is on the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream.
How many Disney Cruise Line ships are there?
Unlike newer ships, Disney Magic offers a higher percentage of interior and ocean view staterooms for guests. There are, for instance, 262 interior staterooms, which make up 30% of all staterooms. Onboard Disney Wish, however, there are only 121 interior staterooms, or 10%! Additionally, there are 229 ocean view staterooms, 362 verandahs, and 22 suites on Disney Magic. Disney Treasure is the second Triton Class ship that's scheduled to enter service in December 2024.
Current fleet
However, between 2022 and 2025, the cruise line will double its fleet, adding three more ships in an all-new class and purchasing a fourth — set to be DCL’s biggest ship yet. Disney cruise ships offer a variety of attractions and amenities, ensuring a magical experience at sea for guests of all ages. Disney's two smaller ships are about 40% smaller than its three bigger ships and have fewer such features. They have a notably more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships.
While I do think the overall experience on the Magic and Wonder can be better, I still do enjoy sailing on the Wish. The newer amenities and experiences do make up for some of the challenges of the larger ship. Plus, she can accommodate approximately 4,000 passengers in her 1,254 staterooms across 15 passenger decks. She is also the most expensive for a cruise vacation as she is the newest ship and has the most experience on board. Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream are bigger and have extra features including more places to grab a unique snack, and the AquaDuck – a water coaster that takes you around the deck.
The Disney Dream also offers a premium ice cream/dessert spot, called Vanellope’s. Each of the original four ships has a French-themed restaurant, although the names and themes are different. There are also three incredibly fun-themed restaurants – Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder, Arendelle on the Disney Wish, and Rapunzel’s Royal Table on the Disney Magic. In addition to dinner, you’ll also be entertained while eating at these three restaurants. While all of the dining rooms on the Disney Cruise Line are fun and offer lots of delicious food options, they do vary by ship. Animator’s Palate, as well as the premium, adult-only Palo, are offered on all original four ships.
It has made cruise travel fun and enjoyable for families and Disney lovers. On a special night aboard most Disney cruises, the “Pirates IN the Caribbean” deck party features a spectacular pyrotechnics performance – fireworks at sea like only Disney can do! Their ships also use the iconic first seven notes of the “When You Wish Upon a Star” song melody as their horn signals. All of the Disney cruise ships are excellent for families – they were all designed for kids and adults alike and have various exciting experiences. The Disney Wish is the best ship, since she’s the newest, but any Disney cruise ship would make for a wonderful family holiday.
Two more Triton-class ships, three more Disney cruise ships, and a Global-class cruise ship acquired from the now-defunct Genting Cruise Lines are all on order. Even though the sister’s have similarities, each of Disney’s five ships features different designs, deck plans, restaurants, entertainment, and activities onboard to make every voyage unique. Making her much-anticipated debut in 1998 was Disney Magic, the cruise line's first cruise ship. Like her younger sister, she, too, is only 84,000 gross registered tons.
The Disney Cruise Line fleet currently has five ships, one under construction and one undergoing renovations. All of the ships in the fleet are updated during frequent dry docks. When we reach the launch of the Global Dream, she will be, by far the biggest of the Disney Cruise ships. We know that this Disney ship will sail out of Singapore – but very few other details are known. There will be at least one more Triton Class ship in the fleet as this has already been ordered.
This is the first in the Disney fleet to showcase Minnie as the bow medallion character, and guests can meet her in her captain’s uniform. On the Disney Wonder, the adult district “After Hours” has a collection of 18+ venues and lounges. You can enjoy a beer at Crown & Fin Pub, dance the night away at Azure Nightclub, or enjoy a unique evening at the Cadillac Lounge, a unique lounge with a retro automotive vibe.
